A fine lantern clock, the only one so far documented by Benjamin Wolverston of London, dating from the 1650s-60s, originally balance wheel and converted anciently to anchor escapement. The maker was working from 1656 and in not recorded after 1668. Superb engraving. |
Civil War period (1650s) lantern clock by Thomas Loomes of the Mermaid in Lothbury, London, son-in-law of the famous Ahasuerus Fromanteel, converted later to a German spring-drive movement. Pictured after restoration.
